May’s BEI honors Ralph McDaniels, Video Music Box and MoCADA. Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival Executive Director Wes Jackson will be moderating a panel where Uncle Ralph disucsses the MoCADA exhibit “The Box That Rocks” with Laurie Cumbo the Founder/Executive Director of MoCADA.

The search is on to see who will be the second artist to advance to the Show & Prove Super Bowl on July 9th, where they’ll be joining April’s winner Rasheed Chappell in kicking off BHF ‘12 week.

The inaugural BEI in 2010 celebrated the life of J Dilla, in 2011 BEI went ‘Beyond The Mic’ and for 2012, we’ve expanded the series with three additional sessions held with the Brooklyn Historical Society leading up to our BHF ‘12 BEI in July.
April’s BEI honors Heavy D with a candid conversation on the impact of Waterbed Hev between Marley Marl (Hip-Hop legend), Wes Jackson, and others.

Red Bull Music Academy Session in Boston
RBMA is bringing its Session to the Boston area featuring a conversation with Hip-Hop DJ/producer, Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival/Salute The DJ alumnus DJ Spinna. Interested applicants will get a preview as to what they can expect this fall for RBMA NYC!
Come for the Session but don’t forget to check out the RBMA Boston Session’s after party with DJ Spinna rocking at the Good Life Bar from 9pm-2am!

Show & Prove Series Announced for
2012 Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival!
The 2012 Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival (BHF) season is here and Show & Prove is back! Now in it’s 4th year, Show & Prove is a premiere underground Hip-Hop concert series that allows up-and-coming Hip-Hop talent a chance to perform at NYC’s largest stage at BHF ‘s Performance Day on July 14th.
Series Schedule:
The three (3) preliminary events will occur on April 12th, May 10th and June 14th; the final Super Bowl event where the preliminary winners will compete for an opening slot at the BHF’s Performance Day will take place on the first day of The Festival on July 9th at Brooklyn Bowl.
Artist Submissions:
Four (4) artists will be selected through Sonicbids to perform at each preliminary event, and one (1) artist winner will be selected at each preliminary. The three (3) winners from the preliminary events will then compete at the Show & Prove Super Bowl (on July 9th) for the opportunity to open on BHF’s Performance Day on July 14th.
Submission Deadlines:
- April Show & Prove - Friday, March 30th
- May Show & Prove - Thursday, April 19th
- June Show & Prove - Thursday, May 24th
